Ride Guidelines

Quincycles rides are open to members and non-members. Bicycling involves certain inherent risks.  Your participation in a Quincycles ride constitutes your agreement to this Acknowledgement, Waiver and Release.  Rides are recommended for ages 16+ unless otherwise noted in the description.  Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

In addition, we expect the following:

  • You will ride safely and lawfully.
  • Your bike will be in good working order – no loose parts, the brakes work, the wheels are secure and the tires are inflated to the stated specifications.
  • You will wear a helmet.
  • You will bring sufficient water or energy drink.
  • You will carry a spare tube.
  • You will carry some form of identification, your health insurance ID, some money and a credit card along with the number of someone to contact in case of emergency. If you have a cell phone, you can program that number under the name “ICE” which responders are trained to look for.
  • You will have a plan to get yourself home should your bike become unrideable for any reason

START TIME

The start time given in the ride schedule is the time the riders will depart. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start time to allow time to assemble your bike, and listen to announcements.

SAFE RIDING IN GROUPS

Riding in a group is different from riding on your own. We expect riders to use these guidelines:

  • Ride on the right.
  • Ride single file, except where legal to ride two abreast.
  • Single out when alerted that a car is approaching from the rear.
  • Maintain a safe distance between you and the other riders.
  • Pass other riders only on their left saying, “On your left” to alert them.
  • Signal turns or intentions to slow or stop well in advance.
  • Alert other riders about overtaking vehicles by saying “Car back.”
  • Do not use earphones or answer your cell phone while riding.
  • Obey all traffic laws.
  • Never call out “Clear.” It is each rider’s individual responsibility to verify that the traffic conditions are safe.
